Position Description

Food Bank For New York City is the city's major hunger-relief organization. The Food Bank works to end food poverty and increase access to affordable, nutritious food for low-income New Yorkers throughout the five boroughs; our initiatives focus on direct services, food sourcing and distribution, nutrition and health education, financial empowerment, disaster relief and policy and research.

The Food Bank procures and distributes food to a network of approximately 1,000 food assistance programs citywide. In addition, we provide food safety and capacity-building workshops; manage school nutrition education programs, after-school and emergency food programs; conduct food stamp prescreening and outreach; operate a Senior Food Program and a soup kitchen and food pantry; coordinate the largest Free Tax Assistance Program in the country; and develop policy and conduct research to inform community and government efforts to end food poverty throughout New York City.

Location: Downtown Manhattan Office - near Wall Street

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB:
Work with the Director of Business Partnerships to manage relationships with the Food Bank’s existing corporate supporters and develop new corporate relationships and partnerships to generate financial support, sponsorships, food drives, volunteers and in-kind donations of goods and services. Create corporate funding and sponsorship opportunities that address the full range of the Food Bank’s programmatic and operational needs and manage city-wide campaigns.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage existing, and create new, corporate relationships for financial support, cause-related marketing, in-kind donations of goods and services, food drives and volunteers;
• Assure on-going communication to corporate partners via Business Development E-Update, website, newsletter and opportunistic outreach (e.g., newspaper articles);
• Manage city-wide campaigns targeted to various industries: banking, hospitality, retail, etc. ;
• Research and develop database of corporations having employee matching gifts programs and initiate programs to promote the Food Bank to employees;
• Prepare tailored proposals and PowerPoint presentations;
• Supervise Special Projects Assistant;
• Meet regularly with corporate prospects, corporate supporters, and other key links to the business community;
• Ensure that proper acknowledgements and visibilities are extended to corporate supporters for sponsorship, donations and other contributions;
• Develop guidelines for companies & organizations that are interested in using the Food Bank’s name or logo in a promotion;
• Respond in a timely and thorough manner to specific requests from corporate supporters;
• Conduct ongoing research on new corporate prospects; maintain an in-depth corporate database via Raiser’s Edge;
• Work collaboratively with other staff members to accomplish goals and objectives of the External Relations department;
• Be a facilitator to the Young Professionals Committee;
• Assist with special events;
• Perform all other duties as required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES DESIRED
• Minimum of two to three years of professional development, marketing or public relations experience;
• Hands-on experience cultivating corporate support;
• Familiarity with corporate giving programs, corporate foundations, and corporate outreach programs;
• Ability to prepare effective marketing proposals and to make convincing presentations;
• Exceptional relationship building skills;
• A flair for thinking creatively outside of the box, particularly as applied to corporate funding opportunities;
• Experience with prospect research and ability to set up a viable data bank;
• Ability to set priorities, manage production schedules and meet deadlines;
• B.A. or B.S. Degree preferred;
• Excellent computer skills including knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet and fundraising software;
• Experience with or knowledge of social service/hunger issues is a plus;
• Has a positive attitude and works well on a team.
