Job Title: Manager, Production Planning & Sourcing

Department: Business Operations

Reports To: Operations & Engineering Director

FLSA Status: Exempt

SUMMARY

The Manufacturing Production Planner is responsible for developing and managing the master production schedule to satisfy customer orders, forecast and sample orders while carrying minimum inventory levels, as well as ensuring that sourcing activities are accomplished timely with a focus on increased profitability for the business unit.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop, communicate, and manage a daily/weekly/monthly production schedule consistent with plant capacity and demand forecast.
  • Prepare Production Work Orders and adjust Bill of Materials as required.
  • Identify schedule risks, including manufacturing lead times, raw material lead times, work center capacity, equipment capacity, labor capacity, drop-ins, or other manufacturing issues that might impact schedule.
  • Review sales forecast weekly/monthly/quarterly to recommend modifications consistent with current or historical demand.
  • Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products
  • Plan and schedule workflow for each department and operation, according to previously established manufacturing sequences and lead times.
  • Identify and promptly respond to changes in schedule that could impact Company's ability to meet customer requirements and on-time delivery.
  • Develop master schedule to establish order build sequence utilizing lead time considerations for each operation.
  • Attend scheduling meetings and coordinate problem solving with appropriate personnel and expedite schedule changes as required.
  • Analyze production specifications and plant capacity data. Perform mathematical calculations to determine optimal manufacturing processes, tools, equipment, and labor requirements.
  • Lead the sales and operations process meetings to review service levels, performance against schedule, inventory strategy, supply plan to meet demand, and resource implications.
  • Determine the desired inventory levels for raw material, sub-assemblies, finished goods, and safety stock.
  • Create and maintain data base to analyze and update information as needed.
  • Track jobs through physical inventory.
  • Plan and prepare production schedules for the business utilizing Syteline/Infor ERP planning software.
  • Confer with team lead members to determine status of assigned orders.
  • Create production reports and brief management on delivery status versus customer due dates.
  • Assist purchasing to determine raw material requirements.
  • Project finished goods inventory stocking level on a quarterly basis and ensure consistency with inventory turns goals.
  • Monitor actual output versus the master production plan, identifying gaps and corrective action.
  • Coordinate with Operations Manager to ensure the necessary materials, configuration records, labor, and tooling to meet required production levels.
  • Participate in Cause and Corrective Action exercises to drill down on scheduling issues.
  • Provide leadership for cross-functional teams to resolve issues related to bottlenecks, part shortages, machine maintenance, labor, or shop capacity.
  • Determine opportunities to decrease inventory, improve customer service levels, and reduce total costs.
  • Work with sourcing specialist to ensure efficient sourcing processes by successful negotiation with suppliers to obtain goods, materials, and services at the best prices.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree strongly preferred. Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics/Statistics, Supply Chain Management, Logistics or Operations Management focus preferred.

  • 5+ years of manufacturing scheduling experience with demand-based planning. Sound knowledge of supply chain processes. High mix, medium to small volume MRPII environment preferred.
  • Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) and Kaizen experience strongly preferred.
  • APICS Certification (CPIM or CSCP) preferred.
  • Experience with demand planning and scheduling utilizing ERP/MRP II systems (SYTELINE/Infor).
  • Experience managing manufacturing processes, productivity and efficiency measurements.
  • Proficient with internet research and MS Office - Outlook, Word, Power Point and Excel.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to speak, read and write in English. Must have exceptional organization and planning skills. Requires strong interpersonal skills, and computer literacy to maintain spreadsheet and database information. Syteline experience helpful.
